  • Anthony Smith (DB) St. Louis Rams

    Updated 11/7/09 4:57 PM

The Jaguars have been awarded Smith off waivers from the St. Louis Rams.

Impacts: Smith, a third-round draft pick by Pittsburgh in 2006, has played 48 games with 14 starts for the Steelers and Rams. He has 99 tackles, four interceptions and 23 special teams tackles. Smith played two games for the Rams this season before he was waived Thursday.

  • Kendrick Clancy (NT) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/7/09 4:09 PM

Clancy was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ending his season.

Impacts: Clancy, a 10th-year player in his third season with the Saints, played in two games and was inactive for five others because of the injury.

  • DeMario Pressley (DT) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/7/09 3:45 PM

The Saints signed Pressley from the practice squad to the active roster.

Impacts: Pressley, a second-year lineman out of North Carolina State, was selected by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. The 6-foot-3, 301-pounder spent his rookie season on injured reserve rehabbing a foot injury suffered early in training camp.

  • Jack Williams (CB) Denver Broncos

    Updated 11/7/09 1:53 PM

Williams has been waived by the Broncos, who have signed veteran Ty Law.

Impacts: Williams was a fourth-round pick out of Kent State in 2008 who apparently didn't fit into coach Josh McDaniel's future plans.

  • Ty Law (CB) New York Jets

    Updated 11/7/09 9:50 AM

The Broncos have shored up their secondary with another veteran, signing Law.

Impacts: The 35-year-old Law, who has been to five Pro Bowls, gives the Broncos five players over 30 in the defensive backfield that now sports a combined 20 Pro Bowl selections. To make room, the Broncos waived defensive back Jack Williams. Law's signing also likely means reduced playing time in the nickel and dime packages for rookie Alphonso Smith.

  • Ty Law (CB) New York Jets

    Updated 11/6/09 3:08 PM

Law has agreed to terms on a deal with the Denver Broncos. Carl Poston, one of Law's agents, confirmed the news Friday to The Associated Press. The agreement came after Denver's media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Impacts: The 35-year-old Law, a perennial Pro Bowl selection, will fit right in with veterans Champ Bailey, Andre' Goodman, Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, all in their 30s.

  • T.J. Houshmandzadeh (WR) Seattle Seahawks

    Updated 11/6/09 2:49 PM

Houshmandzadeh says he's "shocked" with the fuss Seattle's making over him. The outspoken receiver said Friday he's been getting messages from former teammates in Cincinnati asking why people on and around the Seahawks have been making a big deal about his angry gestures and comments about not getting the ball more.

Impacts: Houshmandzadeh, who signed a $40 million, five-year contract in the spring, has just 35 receptions through seven games. He had 92, 112 and 90 catches in his last three years with the Bengals.

  • Kendall Simmons (G) New England Patriots

    Updated 11/6/09 2:13 PM

The New England Patriots have released Simmons, who was inactive for six of his seven games with the team.

Impacts: Simmons, 30, signed with the Patriots on Sept. 6 after being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers. They chose him with the 30th pick of the first round in 2002 out of Auburn and he started all 80 games in which he played during seven seasons with Pittsburgh. He missed the entire 2004 season with a right knee injury and was limited to four games last year by a right Achilles' tendon injury.

  • Bob Sanders (SS) Indianapolis Colts

    Updated 11/6/09 1:27 PM

Sanders will miss the remainder of the 2009 season with a torn biceps tendon, the latest round of bad injury news for the 7-0 Colts.

Impacts: After struggling to get on the field with a bum knee that lingered all offseason, Sanders had played in the Colts' last two games but made just three tackles. He injured his arm in Sunday's win over San Francisco. This is a huge loss to the Colts' defense, but not a surprising one considering he's been hurt as often as he's played in his six-year career.

  • Aaron Rouse (SS) New York Giants

    Updated 11/6/09 1:27 PM

Riding a three-game losing streak, the Giants decided Friday to insert Aaron Rouse into the starting lineup at safety for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers.

Impacts: Rouse will replace beleaguered veteran C.C. Brown, who has been beaten twice on deep passes for touchdowns during the losing streak.

  • Matt Ryan (QB) Atlanta Falcons

    Updated 11/6/09 12:37 PM

Ryan has shown his human side over the last three weeks, throwing seven interceptions after being picked off just 13 times in his first 20 regular-season games.

Impacts: Not all were his fault, of course. There were protection issues and tipped balls and receivers not always running the proper route. But it all comes back to the quarterback, the guy known as Matty Ice. "You've got to ride the ebb and flow of a season," Ryan said. "There's going to be ups and downs. It's a long, long year. At the end of it, you look back and kind of judge how you did."

  • Ben Roethlisberger (QB) Pittsburgh Steelers

    Updated 11/6/09 12:37 PM

The woman who filed a lawsuit accusing Roethlisberger of raping her has quit her job at the Lake Tahoe hotel-casino where she claims the assault occurred in the NFL quarterback's penthouse room more than a year ago.

Impacts: The woman had been working as a VIP host at Harrah's Lake Tahoe in July 2008 when she alleges the two-time Super Bowl champ for the Pittsburgh Steelers lured her to his room under false pretenses and forced himself on her. He was in town playing in a celebrity golf tournament. Roethlisberger has denied the allegations and maintains the woman acted voluntarily at all times while in his room.

  • Ryan Clark (FS) Pittsburgh Steelers

    Updated 11/5/09 4:26 PM

Clark may be saying everything he needs to say with his growing silence. The safety is usually one of the team's most talkative players, but he is saying little as it becomes increasingly likely he won't play Monday in Denver due to a rare blood condition that nearly caused him to die after playing there two years ago.

Impacts: Nearly all of Clark's teammates are urging him to skip the game. The other Steelers safeties are being readied to play, and Clark does not appear as upbeat or as excited as he normally does before a game. Before practice on Thursday, when he often chats with reporters, he sat alone in front of his locker, looking at messages on his cell phone.

  • Louis Rankin (RB) Seattle Seahawks

    Updated 11/5/09 4:05 PM

No one is quite sure just how much Rankin will be used on Sunday when the slumping Seahawks host Detroit. About the only guarantee is it seems obvious the guy cut from the Oakland Raiders earlier this season likely will get his first NFL carry taking over the role held by Edgerrin James before his release.

Impacts: Since being signed by the Seahawks, Rankin has caused headaches for Seattle's No. 1 defense as a scout team back. His natural speed is a change-up the Seahawks hope can help boost a run game averaging just 89 yards per game. Fantasy owners should take a long, hard look at Rankin, who has refused effusive praise from coach Jim Mora.

  • Roy E. Williams (WR) Dallas Cowboys

    Updated 11/5/09 3:45 PM

Williams skipped to a slightly different tune this week by saying he still considers himself the No. 1 receiver despite mounting evidence to the contrary. He said "things are just going No. 2's way," referring to Miles Austin.

Impacts: The less-celebrated Austin has more yards and touchdowns in the past three games than Williams has in his first 16 with the Cowboys. Austin set an NFL record with 482 yards in his first three starts, while Williams has 447 yards for the equivalent of a full season in Dallas. He backtracked on comments that suggested quarterback Tony Romo's throws are accurate to Austin and all over the place to him.

  • Ben Roethlisberger (QB) Pittsburgh Steelers

    Updated 11/5/09 2:49 PM

Roethlisberger may be especially eager to go to the no-huddle Monday night in Denver, given how much success the Ravens had while running 31 plays out of no-huddle sets during their 30-7 victory over the Broncos on Sunday.

Impacts: Roethlisberger excels with the no-huddle. "It's a possibility," Roethlisberger said. "We'll go into it with the mentality that we'll go in with the game plan we've got and, if we need to go into the no-huddle, we'll do it."

  • Marc Bulger (QB) St. Louis Rams

    Updated 11/5/09 11:42 AM

Bulger has thrown just three touchdown passes and has a passer rating of 68.2 for the scuffling St. Louis Rams.

Impacts: Don't expect coach Steve Spagnuolo to change quarterbacks. He has been generally pleased with the 32-year-old quarterback. Bulger hasn't had much help from his inexperienced crew of receivers. Laurent Robinson began the season as a favorite target but he's out for the rest of 2009 with an injury. Donnie Avery is now the go-to guy, but he's been hurt as well.

  • Kevin Smith (RB) Detroit Lions

    Updated 11/4/09 6:10 PM

Smith missed practice Wednesdayafter aggravating a shoulder injury in the Lions' loss to St. Louis.

Impacts: Smith has rushed 125 times for 393 yards and three touchdowns, so continue to monitor his progress this week.

  • Josh Brown (K) St. Louis Rams

    Updated 11/4/09 3:28 PM

Brown was named the NFC's special teams player of the week Wednesday after a game that saw him kick a 41-yard field goal but also throw a 36-yard touchdown pass to tight end Daniel Fells.

Impacts: It was more of a flip on a fake field goal attempt that helped the Rams end a 17-game losing streak with a 17-10 victory over Detroit. Brown, who was a running back playing eight-man football at Foyil (Okla.) High School, said he considered trying to run for a first down. Instead, he sort of shot-putted the ball to Fells, who broke one tackle en route to the end zone.

  • Matt Hasselbeck (QB) Seattle Seahawks

    Updated 11/4/09 3:07 PM

Hasselbeck watched most of Wednesday's practice to rest his broken ribs, though the Seahawks expect the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback to start again Sunday against Detroit. Seattle coach Jim Mora said Hasselbeck "was a little bit beat up, like what happens to a lot of quarterbacks in this league" after playing all of last weekend's 38-17 loss at Dallas.

Impacts: He was crumpled on the turf after a hit in the third quarter but finished the game. Seneca Wallace ran the first-team offense Wednesday. Wallace lost both games he started when Hasselbeck was out from the ribs broken Sept. 20 at San Francisco. Doctors had estimated this to be the final week in the usual recovery time for Hasselbeck's injury, but that's under normal circumstances.

  • Tyjuan Hagler (OLB) Indianapolis Colts

    Updated 11/4/09 3:07 PM

The unbeaten Colts have lost starting linebacker Tyjuan Hagler for the rest of the season with a ruptured biceps. Coach Jim Caldwell said Hagler was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Impacts: Second-year linebacker Philip Wheeler and undrafted rookie Ramon Humber are expected to replace Hagler. Indy also will promote rookie linebacker Cody Glenn to the active roster from the practice squad. Hagler was fourth on the team with 36 tackles.

  • Jarrad Page (FS) Kansas City Chiefs

    Updated 11/4/09 8:58 AM

Page, a three-year starter at free safety, has been placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Impacts: Page was not at practice on Monday and coach Todd Haley said he had been injured during practice last Thursday. Haley said he might have more to say about the situation on Wednesday. The Chiefs announced the roster move on their Web site Wednesday.

  • Travis Daniels (DB) Kansas City Chiefs

    Updated 11/4/09 8:39 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs said they had signed free agent cornerback Travis Daniels on Wednesday to replace injured starting safety Jarrad Page.

Impacts: Daniels attended training camp with the Chiefs this year but was released before the season began. He made 26 starts with Miami from 2005-07.

  • Jarrad Page (FS) Kansas City Chiefs

    Updated 11/4/09 8:39 AM

Page, a three-year starter at free safety, was placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. The Chiefs also said they had signed free agent cornerback Travis Daniels.

Impacts: Page was not at practice on Monday and coach Todd Haley said he had been injured during practice last Thursday. Haley said he might have more to say about the situation on Wednesday. Page has made 39 starts since he was taken in the seventh round in 2006.

  • Chris Chambers (WR) Kansas City Chiefs

    Updated 11/3/09 6:57 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced they were awarded Chambers, who was waived by San Diego, via a waiver claim.

Impacts: The Chargers waived Chambers on Monday. Originally a second-round pick by Miami in 2001, Chambers has made 111 starts with the Dolphins and Chargers and caught 482 passes for 6,827 yards and 53 touchdowns.

  • Danny Amendola (WR) St. Louis Rams

    Updated 11/3/09 6:15 PM

Amendola sat out practice Tuesday due to a concussion. Amendola rode a stationary bicycle during Tuesday's workout and coach Steve Spagnuolo said the diminutive receiver was set to undergo tests for concussion-related symptoms on Wednesday.

Impacts: The 5-11, 186-pound Amendola was leveled by the Lions' Zach Follett early in the fourth quarter Sunday and didn't return to the Rams' 17-10 victory. He didn't remember leaving the field, but said he'd "probably" be on the field for the Rams' final practice Wednesday before players disperse for their off week. Amendola is averaging 24 yards on kickoff returns and 8.5 yards on punt returns, and has 15 receptions for 128 yards.

  • James Holt (LB) San Diego Chargers

    Updated 11/3/09 6:15 PM

The San Diego Chargers have signed rookie linebacker Holt from the practice squad to fill the roster spot created when wide receiver Chris Chambers was released.

Impacts: Holt originally joined the Chargers in May as a free agent. He was released at the conclusion of training camp and added to the practice squad. The Chargers need a linebacker because Tim Dobbins is expected to be out for two weeks after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's 24-16 win over Oakland.

  • Keith Smith (DB) San Francisco 49ers

    Updated 11/3/09 4:09 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Smith to a one-year contract, boosting their secondary a day after learning Nate Clements would be sidelined up to eight weeks with a broken shoulder blade.

Impacts: Smith was released by Detroit before the season. The Lions selected him in the third round of the 2004 draft. Smith has played in 71 career games with five starts and 118 tackles, four interceptions, a sack, a forced fumble and one touchdown.

  • Jeremy Shockey (TE) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

Shockey had five catches for 72 yards Monday night in the Saints' 35-27 win over Atlanta.

Impacts: Shockey has only scored one touchdown since grabbing two in Week 1, but that shouldn't diminish his fantasy value. Drew Brees is clearly looking for him, but on a team with as many options as New Orleans has, he's not always going to score.

  • Pierre Thomas (RB) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

Thomas had 14 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown and also caught a pass for a score in the Saints' 35-27 win over Atlanta on Monday night.

Impacts: It's hard to tell what you're going to get week-to-week from the Saints' running backs, but Thomas remains the best threat to break a big play. Look for plenty of those the next three weeks against Carolina, Tampa Bay and St. Louis.

  • Marques Colston (WR) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

Colston had six catches for 85 yards and a touchdown Monday night in the Saints' 35-27 win over Atlanta.

Impacts: Colston has now scored three weeks in a row. He's never going to have as effective of a season as he did in 2007, but Colston still remains the Saints' best threat to score each week.

  • Roddy White (WR) Atlanta Falcons

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

White had four catches for 108 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 35-27 loss at New Orleans on Monday night.

Impacts: White's touchdown catch was impressive and another he nearly caught would have been even better. It's the fourth straight game White has scored and look for many more, particularly with Carolina and Washington on the schedule the next few weeks.

  • Edgerrin James (RB) Seattle Seahawks

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

The struggling Seattle Seahawks have released James.

Impacts: James signed with Seattle in late August hoping to revitalize a career that fell flat after moving from Indianapolis to Arizona. In seven games as the backup to Julius Jones, James had just 46 carries for 125 yards and no scores. He averaged just 2.7 yards per carry.

  • Scott Kooistra (G) Cincinnati Bengals

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

The Bengals released Kooistra on Tuesday, ending his seven-year career in Cincinnati.

Impacts: Kooistra was a seventh-round pick in 2003. He appeared in 82 games with Cincinnati, including two this season. He was inactive for the other five games.

  • Tony Gonzalez (TE) Atlanta Falcons

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

Gonzalez had six catches for 89 yards in the Falcons' 35-27 loss at New Orleans on Monday night.

Impacts: Gonzalez had at least four catches for the fourth straight week, even though he's only scored once in his last five games. Look for him to be a red-zone target more in the coming weeks with Matt Ryan struggling.

  • Matt Ryan (QB) Atlanta Falcons

    Updated 11/3/09 3:39 PM

Ryan was intercepted three times, his third consecutive game with at least two picks, and finished 19 of 42 for 289 yards Monday night in the Falcons' 35-27 loss at New Orleans.

Impacts: "I'm not concerned at all,'' coach Mike Smith said of his second-year quarterback. "We're going to be judged on 16 games. Not one game and not three games.'' Ryan could have better luck the next few weeks against Carolina and Washington.

  • Michael Turner (RB) Atlanta Falcons

    Updated 11/3/09 3:19 PM

Turner had 151 yards rushing, including a 13-yard touchdown, in the Falcons' 35-27 loss in New Orleans on Monday night.

Impacts: Turner has been a huge disappointment after his breakout 2008 season, but this performance is a good sign. Look for it to continue the next two weeks as Atlanta faces Carolina and Washington.

  • Drew Brees (QB) New Orleans Saints

    Updated 11/3/09 3:19 PM

Brees had two turnovers but passed for 308 yards and two scores Monday night in the Saints' 35-27 win over Atlanta.

Impacts: Brees has turned the ball over six times (four interceptions, two fumbles) in the past two games, but that still hasn't derailed the Saints' perfect season. Look for turnovers to be a rarity for Brees in the next three weeks, when he faces Carolina, St. Louis and Tampa Bay.

  • Connor Barth (K) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Updated 11/3/09 11:25 AM

The Buccaneers have signed Barth and released kicker Shane Andrus.

Impacts: Barth was cut by the Miami Dolphins in August after kicking in 10 games for Kansas City last season. He made 10 of 12 field goals and converted all 24 of his extra-point attempts with the Chiefs.

  • Shane Andrus (K) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Updated 11/3/09 11:25 AM

The Buccaneers have signed kicker Connor Barth and released Andrus.

Impacts: Andrus signed with Tampa Bay after Mike Nugent struggled early this season. He appeared in three games, going 0-for-1 on field goal attempts while converting six extra points without a miss.

  • Billy Cundiff (K) Cleveland Browns

    Updated 11/3/09 10:55 AM

Cundiff was waived by the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday. He filled in while Phil Dawson missed five games with a pulled right calf muscle. Cundiff made all six field-goal tries for the Browns (1-7).

Impacts: Dawson returned for last week's game against Chicago and had his extra point blocked in a 30-6 loss to the Chicago Bears.

  • Anthony Madison (DB) Cleveland Browns

    Updated 11/3/09 10:55 AM

The Browns waived Madison on Tuesday.

Impacts: After playing three seasons with Pittsburgh, Madison appeared in four games this year for Cleveland but did not record a tackle.

  • Terrence McGee (CB) Buffalo Bills

    Updated 11/3/09 10:35 AM

McGee had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair minor damage and expects to be out for about two weeks.

Impacts: McGee said Tuesday he waited to have the operation on Monday, when the Bills began their bye week so that he would not miss much playing time. Buffalo is off until a road game against Tennessee on Nov. 15. McGee said doctors told him the operation went well. McGee, who hasn't missed a game this season, injured his knee during a 38-10 loss at Miami on Oct. 4.

  • Steve Smith (WR) New York Giants

    Updated 11/2/09 4:35 PM

Smith had eight receptions for 68 yards in the Giants' 40-17 loss in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Impacts: Smith already has a career-best 662 yards this season and need four receptions to tie his 57 from 2008. If Mario Manningham remains out with injury, he could be Eli Manning's top target.

  • Brandon Jacobs (RB) New York Giants

    Updated 11/2/09 4:35 PM

Jacobs rushed for 86 yards on 20 carries in Sunday's 40-17 loss in Philadelphia.

Impacts: After running for 104 yards in the season's first two games, Jacobs has averaged nearly 75 yards over the last six and 4.1 yards per carry.

  • Eli Manning (QB) New York Giants

    Updated 11/2/09 4:20 PM

Manning struggled once again in throwing two interceptions in a 40-17 loss in Philadelphia on Sunday. He was 20 of 39 for 222 yards and a touchdown.

Impacts: Manning has six of his eight interceptions over the last three games. He also has 13 TDs with at least one in every game.

  • Leonard Weaver (FB) Philadelphia Eagles

    Updated 11/2/09 4:20 PM

Weaver had a career-high 75 yards on eight carries and scored his second career touchdown in Sunday's 40-17 rout of the visiting New York Giants.

Impacts: It's hard to read too much into this despite Brian Westrbook's concussion. Weaver has averaged 8.4 yards in 53 career games and had 15 yards in the previous six this season.

  • LeSean McCoy (RB) Philadelphia Eagles

    Updated 11/2/09 4:20 PM

In Sunday's 40-17 rout of the New York Giants, McCoy had 82 yards on 11 carries with most coming on a 66-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Impacts: McCoy has been inconsistent this season but could straighten things out if Brian Westbrook remains out with a concussion.

  • Brent Celek (TE) Philadelphia Eagles

    Updated 11/2/09 4:20 PM

Celek had another solid performance with four receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-17 rout of the visiting New York Giants.

Impacts: Celek is in the top five among tight ends with 37 catches for 447 yards, both career highs. He's also tied for seventh with three TDs.

  • Braylon Edwards (WR) New York Jets

    Updated 11/2/09 4:20 PM

Edwards caught five passes for 74 yards, most in four games with the Jets, and scored a touchdown in Sunday's 30-25 loss to visiting Miami.

Impacts: Edwards has 13 catches for 192 yards and two TDs since being traded from Cleveland on Oct. 7.
