Fantasy Football Sleepers List (2012)

What is a Fantasy Football Sleeper?

Typically, a late-round pick or waiver-wire selection who exceeds his statistical expectations and becomes a prominent option in fantasy leagues. A Fantasy Football Sleeper can be a rookie, such as AJ Green, or a player who greatly exceeded expectations such as Rob Gronkowski in 2011. Third-year wide receivers are often good Sleeper candidates because many take a few years to develop.

2012 Fantasy Football Sleepers,Deep Sleepers, Busts and Breakouts

Fantasy Football Sleepers (Fabiano):

Josh Freeman , QB, Buccaneers: An enormous disappointment last season, Freeman had more turnovers than touchdowns and finished 16th in fantasy points among quarterbacks. With the addition of Vincent Jackson in the pass attack and Doug Martin in the backfield, though, a slimmer Freeman (he lost 20 pounds this offseason) will be in a position to rebound in 2012.

Toby Gerhart, RB, Vikings: Adrian Peterson (knee) expects to be back on the field in time for Week 1, but that doesn't mean he will be back that soon coming off an ACL operation. Regardless, Gerhart could wind up seeing a bigger role in the offense at the start of the season. Considering how well he played in A.D.'s absence last year, Gerhart has some value.

Eric Decker, WR, Broncos: Peyton Manning's presence under center will make just about every member of the team's pass attack more valuable in fantasy land. That includes Decker, who has 1,000-yard potential in what will be his third NFL season. He'll be drafted as a No. 3 fantasy wide receiver, but could produce far better than his expected middle-round ADP.

Fantasy Football Deep Sleepers (Fabiano):

Tim Tebow, QB, Jets: You knew I couldn't leave out Tebow! While Mark Sanchez will enter the season as the starter for Gang Green, does anyone have any doubt that Tebow will start a few games? When you consider how well he performed for the Broncos and fantasy owners in 2011, I think Tebow is someone to draft late in deep leagues -- or grab off the waiver wire.

Mike Goodson, RB, Raiders: If you've been playing fantasy football for the last four years, you know it's not a question of if Darren McFadden gets injured -- it's a matter of when. Enter Goodson, a veteran runner out of Texas A&M who the Raiders coaching staff loves. If he can hold off Taiwan Jones in camp, Goodson will have some real late-round appeal.
