Few quarterbacks will ever be drafted after starting only three games their senior year, but McGee has the tools worthy of consideration. A fine Texas high school quarterback recruited by several top programs, McGee went to Texas A&M to make his own name. While his statistics under former head coach Dennis Franchione were solid enough to earn NFL attention (60 percent completion rate for 4,606 yards and a 24-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio), McGee was hardly developing into a pro-ready quarterback through Franchione's read-option offense.
With former Green Bay head coach Mike Sherman taking over the helm in 2008, optimism was high that McGee would enjoy a big senior campaign. Then he suffered a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder early in the season, limiting him to only the three starts. A solid week of practice at the East-West Shrine Game - and this year's weak senior class of quarterbacks - could result in McGee earning a surprisingly high grade from some teams who are willing to look past his stunted development and focus on his undeniable tools. Washington elected to leave with another year of eligibility remaining, surprising scouts who felt he had an opportunity to prove himself in 2009. In reality, Washington has legitimate NFL talent and is hardly inexperienced -- starting 32 games for the Buckeyes. Despite opposing quarterbacks focusing on his side of the field rather than attack Michael Jenkins, Washington struggled to make game-changing plays throughout his career, intercepting only two passes. Washington is expected to get a late boost with his workouts, but scouts view him as a better athlete than football player and strictly a draft gamble based on his upside.

A preseason Outland Trophy candidate, Scott was a microcosm of the entire Clemson program, struggling amid heightened expectations to start the season before picking up his play later in the season. It is easy to see why expectations were high for Scott, considering he had averaged 50 tackles and four sacks as a sophomore and junior. As a senior, his numbers fell with his draft stock. But his frame and Clemson's reputation for churning out NFL-caliber defensive linemen, a mid-round selection remains a possibility if Scott can convince scouts in interviews that his disappointing 2008 campaign was more aberration than trend.

Maiava earned second-team All-Pac-10 accolades as a senior -- his only season as a starter -- and was at his best on the biggest stage, earning Defensive MVP honors in the Trojans' Rose Bowl victory over Penn State with four solo tackles and two passes broken up. Finishing behind only Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing atop the Trojans' stat sheet, Maiava posted 66 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. Luigs was an integral part of the Razorbacks' vaunted running game the past few seasons, and returned to school despite a coaching change after he won the 2007 Rimington Award as the nation's top center. Although his senior season was somewhat disappointing from a team perspective, Luigs managed second-team All-SEC honors despite a slew of talented pivot men in the conference and was again a finalist for the Rimington (won by Penn State's A.Q. Thomas may be shorter than scouts would like, but he has everything else to buck the odds as an undersized NFL receiver. Thomas' reliable hands, crisp routes, agility and straight-line speed make him a legitimate playmaker as a receiver and return specialist.
The Pac-10's all-time leader with 259 receptions, Thomas twice earned first-team all-conference accolades, registering 157 catches and 15 touchdowns over his final two seasons. Wanting to show scouts that he could contribute on special teams as well, Thomas moved to punt returner as a senior, scoring two touchdowns and garnering first-team All-Pac-10 accolades.
Sure, he lacks size, but a slot receiver with Thomas' return ability will find his way into the middle of teams' draft boards. Had an arm span of 31 inches and a hand span of 9 3/8 inches at the combine.

Hartline stepped up as a solid No. 2 receiver to Brian Robiskie with 52 catches for 694 yards and six scores in 2007. But the move to QB Terrelle Pryor and a different offensive mindset early in 2008 decreased Hartline's role. While he was still a big-play threat who averaged 22.4 yards per receptions, Hartline finished with just 21 catches.
Considering Ohio State's focus on Pryor's running ability, that Hartline considered leaving the Buckeyes wasn't a surprise. It was, however, a surprise that he didn't consider transferring rather than relinquishing his collegiate eligibility in the hopes of being a late-round pick. An undersized pass-rush specialist with the Beavers, Butler must make the transition to outside linebacker in the NFL. A standout pass rusher who broke out to register 10.5 sacks as a junior despite only starting one game, Butler was first-team All-Pac-10 and tied the single-season sack record at OSU with 12 as a senior and leaves second in school history with 25.5 career sacks. It was his final two games with the Beavers that really have scouts intrigued. Butler earned Sun Bowl MVP after racking up 11 tackles, including five tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble against Pittsburgh and showed surprising fluidity when operating in coverage while at the East-West Shrine Game.

Goodson looked like one of college football's rising stars in 2006, using his speed and elusiveness to rush for 949 yards and win Big 12 Freshman of the Year in his first season in College Station. He also flashed big-time talent in his sophomore year as part of a three-back rotation (711 rushing yards, 36 catches for 361 yards, eight total touchdowns).
His 2008 role was limited, however, by injuries and good talent in the backfield. Goodson managed only 406 yards on 94 rushes, but he did catch 37 balls for 386 yards and three touchdowns.
Goodson's versatility and excellent speed give him the tools to be an impact player in the NFL, but with reports about frosty relationships with both the current and former A&M coaching staffs, some scouts wonder if his immaturity is worth the gamble. Bill Belichick loves the second round and has no interest in a high-priced first-round player that will upset the chemistry in his locker room. The Patriots used four picks in the second round and parlayed other picks into two additional second-round picks next year. Coach Belichick considers Patrick Chung is a very bright safety who makes the calls and adjustments, and third-round linebacker Tyrone McKenzie has played in so many systems that he can eventually help out at all the linebacker spots. Ron Brace, the Boston College nose tackle, may leverage the club against the contract demands of Vince Wilfork down the road. It will be tough for 12 draft picks to make this Patriots team, but they should also have a very good practice squad. They may still be in the market for a veteran outside pass rusher.

Another in the line of talented Florida receivers, Murphy hopes to change the group's poor reputation among NFL scouts. Despite his good size and great speed (ran anchor on state-winning 4x400 relay team in high school), Florida's other speedy playmakers overshadow Murphy's attributes and prevent him from putting up big numbers.
He averaged 38 catches for 602 yards (15.8 avg.) and 6.5 touchdowns the past two seasons. In other offenses, Murphy could have been a 1,000-yard receiver.
NFL teams hope they can give him a chance to be that type of receiver. Coach Urban Meyer has said Murphy improved as a player and a person as much as anyone he has coached. Had an arm span of 33 5/8 inches and a hand span of 10 inches at the combine.

That can only bode well for Sidbury, a two-time CAA first-team selection whose 11.5 sacks in 2008 helped the Spiders win a national championship. Sidbury lacks the bulk and strength to compete as more than a rotational pass rusher at the next level, but his upfield burst and strong performance in the national championship game against Montana (four sacks) and during the week of practice at the East-West Shrine Game secured his status as a second-day draft pick.

People have criticized the Raiders for taking WR Darrius Heyward-Bey too early and then selecting Mike Mitchell in the second round, a safety that many had as a second-day pick. Heyward-Bey gives the Raiders a deep threat and they have the quarterback in JaMarcus Russell to get it to him off the play-action fake to Darren McFadden. The Raiders still need to pick up a left tackle if one becomes available. Levi Jones could help this situation if he is cut by Cincinnati.

Obviously, his success as a junior had a major impact on his decision. He earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2008 with 106 catches for 1,453 yards and 15 touchdowns. This highly-recruited California prep started off his career in style (53-771-8) in 2004. He then served his two-year LCS mission in Argentina before returning in second-team All-Mountain West form as a sophomore (56-946-7).
His father, Scott, played for BYU and then in the CFL, while his brother, Zac, also played receiver for the Cougars. Had an arm span of 31 inches and a hand span of 9 inches at the combine.

Those outside Conference USA might be surprised how high McRath, only a junior, ranks among leaders in tackles over his career. McRath, who earned his second consecutive first-team All-Conference USA plaque in 2008, finished with 137 tackles (78 solo) during his junior season and has 386 tackles, 32 1/2 tackles for loss and eight sacks in his career. Voted the 2007 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, McRath's production can't be denied. But scouts are worried how he'll hold up at the next level due to his marginal size. A fast 40 time could ease scouts concerns, who feel that McRath is best suited for the weak side.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he was very excited about what Beanie Wells brings to the team as a big-play back who has already performed well in University of Phoenix Stadium in bowl games. Defensive end Cody Brown gives them a hybrid player who can rush the passer with a good bend in his turn off the tackle or occasionally drop into coverage, according to Whisenhunt. Herman Johnson is a massive offensive lineman who Russ Grimm wants to work with and should really protect the launch point for Kurt Warner. Likewise, guard and seventh-round pick Trevor Canfield will make summer camp interesting with his reputation as a tenacious player always ready to rumble.

Nationally underrated, Olsen leaves Iowa as a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a rising prospect on NFL boards due to his size, strength, durability and versatility. A four-year contributor, Olsen started each of the past two seasons, primarily on the right side of the line, but also seeing some action at left tackle.
He was first-team All-Big Ten selection by the media and coaches while primarily at right guard in 2008 after garnering honorable mention honors at right tackle as a junior. A strong showing throughout the week at the East-West Shrine Game might have secured Olsen's place as a second-day draft selection. Had an arm span of 33 1/8 inches and a hand span of 9 1/2 inches at the combine.

A former defensive tackle, Green started the last two seasons at left guard for the Tigers and is viewed as an ascending player by NFL scouts, if one relatively unknown outside of the SEC. He remains a bit of a work in progress in terms of technique and upper-body strength, but for zone-blocking teams looking for an athletic developmental prospect, Green could prove one of the more intriguing guards of the 2009 draft. Had an arm span of 33 3/4 inches and a hand span of 10 1/4 inches at the combine.

Talented backs like Johnson don't typically get out of the state of Florida, especially considering he led Dade County in rushing as a senior. His physique and lack of elite speed scream fullback, but his production for the Rams tells a different story.
The 2008 first-team All-Mountain West pick appeared to come from nowhere with his 285-yard, two-touchdown effort against Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl last December, but he had already approached 1,200 yards during the regular season and ran for 957 yards as a part-time starter in 2007. He also caught 32 for 295 yards out of the backfield as a senior, mostly on swing passes, which gives him a bit more versatility than most expect. Had an arm span of 30 1/2 inches and a hand span of 9 1/2 inches at the combine.

A four-year starter who capped his career with the Green Wave by earning first-team Conference USA accolades and earning a trip to the Senior Bowl, Kropog has the lateral agility in pass protection to join former teammate Matt Forte as a successful contributor early in his career. To do so, however, teams will have to settle on where Kropog fits best. While he spent the past three seasons at left tackle, Kropog didn't see the speed in Conference USA that he'll face in the NFL. At this point, Kropog may also lack the upper body strength to fit with most teams at guard. Had an arm span of 33 1/4 inches and a hand span of 10 1/8 inches at the combine.

A fire hydrant run-stopper in the middle of the defense, he can collapse the pocket and aggravate quarterbacks, all while making life easier for his teammates on the line. He flashed skills as a freshman, and was a starter in the middle the past three seasons. Much was expected out of Taylor after earning a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2007 (55 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 3.5 sacks), but his play noticeably dropped off as a senior (35 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks). Taylor's push up the middle is certain to intrigue teams looking for a plugger on the D-line, but his lack of improvement as a senior and struggles at the East-West Shrine Game put him in the middle or late portion of the second day in this draft.
