Purdue DE Gelen Robinson arrested on alcohol charge

Purdue sophomore defensive end Gelen Robinson, who is expected to start for the Boilermakers this fall, was arrested early Saturday morning for an alcohol-related offense.

The Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier reported Monday that Robinson -- the son of former NBA player Glenn Robinson -- was arrested for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent or more and for illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.

The newspaper also reported that Purdue spokesman Matt Rector said coach Darrell Hazell was aware of the situation and that Robinson had entered a diversion agreement last August after being cited for minor consumption by Purdue Police last June.

Robinson (6-foot-1, 250 pounds) appeared in 11 games last season as a reserve, finishing with 20 tackles and two sacks. He is expected to replace Ryan Russell, a fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft, as one of the Boilermakers' starting ends this fall. Robinson is expected to be Purdue's best pass rusher.

His dad was the overall No. 1 pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Gelen's brother, Glenn Jr., played basketball at Michigan and is currently with the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers.
