Oregon State offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf has been hired as the New York Giants' quarterbacks coach, with the official announcement coming Monday.
Langsdorf, 41, had spent 11 seasons with the Beavers over two different stints in Corvallis, Ore., but worked with new Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo as part of the New Orleans Saints' coaching staff in 2004.
Under Langsdorf and head coach Mike Riley, Oregon State has remained one of the last outposts using a pro-style offense in the Pac-12, to great success, developing players such as quarterback Matt Moore, running back Jacquizz Rodgers, and wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Markus Wheaton.
Langsdorf's latest protege, quarterback Sean Mannion, elected to return to school for his senior season after throwing for 4,662 yards and 37 touchdowns with 15 interceptions. To develop into a top-tier 2015 NFL Draft prospect, Mannion will have to cut down on the picks and improve his decision-making without Langsdorf's tutelage.
Mannion is sound in his mechanics and has plenty of arm talent, so Riley does not necessarily need to find a technician to replace Langsdorf. Instead, it will come down to that coach's ability to get Mannion to limit mistakes, which is, coincidentally, the same task facing Langsdorf after Eli Manning threw a staggering 27 interceptions this season.
