The Dallas Cowboys haven't shut the door on running back DeMarco Murray seeing time against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The second-year pro suffered a sprained left foot against the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 14 and hasn't played since. Murray engaged in on-field rehab Wednesday, and Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said the running back might see limited work in Thursday's practice, according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com.
"I think when he's ready, he'll be ready to go," Garrett said. "You want to have good, quality practice work for him before he plays in a game, but he's played a lot of football. He's a smart guy. We have a lot of different thresholds for him, but he's a guy that you could say he hasn't practiced as much as everybody else but can still play in the ballgame. ...
"We'll see how he responds to that work, and we'll do some more with him today," Garrett said. "Obviously we want to progress him to practice and playing as quickly as we can. At the same time, we need to be smart with his injury."
If Murray can't go, the Browns will see a healthy dose of Felix Jones and Lance Dunbar.
Murray's spotty durability is a genuine concern for the Cowboys. He's the best back in Dallas when healthy, but Murray has started just five games this season because of the injury.
