Sanchez gathers Eagles for training week in San Diego

Mark Sanchez wants the starting quarterback job in Philly, and as the team winds down its pre-training camp break, he's keeping his foot on the gas.

This week, Sanchez gathered ten other Eagles for his favorite summer tradition: sleep-away camp with the skill players. In what was dubbed "Jets West" during his time with Gang Green, Sanchez and players like Darren Sproles, Jordan Matthews, and Zach Ertz holed up at a house in San Diego to stay in shape and get in extra reps, according to Birds 24/7.

The man many think will start for Philly, Sam Bradford, was not in attendance, likely still recovering from the torn ACL that limited him throughout Philadelphia's offseason. Neither was Sanchez's consummate thorn-in-the-side, Tim Tebow. Last year's third stringer, Matt Barkley, did make the trip.

Though training camp isn't for three weeks, the gathering in San Diego had a heavy agenda. The players worked out with trainer Todd Durkin, who described the regimen to Birds 24/7 writer Tim McManus.

"Every day they've had field work where they've been on the field and doing their install," Durkin said. "After they do the weight room work they go over to the high school and they watch film for about an hour and then we do our warm-up with them and bring them through all their agility and movement stuff, and then Mark leads their install and they do all that."

After Nick Foles went down with a broken collar bone in Week 9 last season, Sanchez stepped in and raised some eyebrows, going 4-4 and tossing 14 TDs to 11 interceptions. He'll likely have to continue to impress if he wants the job this year, but after solid OTAs and a good minicamp, this is another step in the right direction.
