New York Jets add Josh Johnson to stable of QBs

As the New York Jets continue to reassemble their quarterback room following the punch heard 'round the world, they are going to great lengths to make sure the position is deep enough.

The JetssignedJosh Johnson on Thursday, days after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals. New York also announced that they cut quarterback Jake Heaps.

Though the team just signedMatt Flynn, Johnson is worth the chance. Over his last three preseasons he's compiled quarterback ratings of 110.8, 83.3 and 115.2. His offseason work with legendary quarterback guru Tom House also has aided his development.

At 29, Johnson has more than enough left in the tank to make a play for what looks to be a wide-open backup gig in Florham Park, New York.

» The Cleveland BrownssignedPat Devlin on Thursday. Devlin, who was once compared to Tony Romo on HBO's Hard Knocks, had a solid three-year career in Miami before bouncing to Minnesota for a brief stint in the preseason last year.

Devlin likely is a stand-in for Johnny Manziel, whose sore throwing arm will keep him out of extended work for a few days.
