Khalil Mack striving to be 'best to play the game'

Entering his sixth NFL season, Khalil Mack is already thinking about where his legacy stacks up among the top pass-rushing linebackers to ever play football.

"I want to be the best to play the game," Mack said Wednesday, via ESPN.com. "I mean, you got L.T. [Lawrence Taylor]. You got Derrick Thomas. You got special, special guys that have played this position, and that's all you can do, is kind of chase."

Mack, currently the NFL's highest-paid defensive player, has generated four straight seasons of double-digit sacks to go along with a smorgasbord of QB pressures -- Pro Football Focus charted him with 68 total pressures on 468 pass-rushes last year alone. He also forced a career-high six fumbles in 2018.

After five seasons, Mack is on pace to sprint into the Hall of Fame, but the Bears pass rusher is seeking more to his legacy than a gold jacket.

The goal to be viewed as the best to ever play starts with stacking on his impressive 2018 campaign.

"I don't [do] too much talking," Mack said. "I let my play do that for me. The expectations is to be a lot better than last year, for sure."
