Injury report: Megatron, Tate practice for Lions

Calvin Johnson has been dealing with an ankle injury, and Golden Tate popped up on the injury report Thursday with hamstring trouble.

However, both Detroit Lions receivers practiced Friday, a positive sign for Sunday's matchup with the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Jim Caldwell told reporters Friday that Tate's injury shouldn't keep him out of action this week.

Johnson missed practice Wednesday and Thursday -- as he has often in his career -- but returned Friday to test it once again. Megatron was severely limited last week against the Jets, on many downs playing more of a decoy role.

Caldwell did not rule out sitting Johnson for a week at some point this season if they thought it would help his long-term health.

Here are some more injuries we're following on this Week 5 Friday:

1.* *The Saints placed prized offseason acquisition Jairus Byrdon season-ending injured reserve on Friday after the safety tore his lateral meniscus during practice Thursday.

2. Drew Stanton is in the starting lineup for the Cardinals' game against the Broncos due to Carson Palmer's struggles to overcome a nerve issue in his right shoulder.

3.* *Jets coach Rex Ryan took the podium Friday with some surprising news: Wide receiver Eric Decker (hamstring) will be a game-time decision after sitting out of practice, and David Nelson (ankle) is listed as questionable after participating in limited fashion, but Ryan expressed optimism about Nelson's status.

Ryan also said cornerback Dee Milliner will play Sunday, though he was noncommittal on the defensive back's status as a starter.

4. Though Johnson and Tate both practiced Friday, Lions running back Joique Bell (concussion) did not participate. Bell has been cleared for physical activity, but he was ruled out by the team. Theo Riddick is also out.

5. Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson (hip) returned to practice, but running back Jonathan Stewart (knee) sat out for the second straight day and is listed as doubtful. Tight end Ed Dickson (hip) will be a game-time decision.

Carolina also ruled out running back DeAngelo Williams for Sunday's game against Chicago.

6. Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable and did not practice Friday. Uh oh.

7.* *The Jaguars declared wide receivers Marqise Lee (hamstring), Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and cornerback Dwayne Gratz (concussion) out for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

8.* *Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion) and wide receiver Marvin Jones (ankle) are doubtful for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Defensive lineman Margus Hunt is questionable (shoulder).

9.* *Niners coach Jim Harbaugh said it's still questionable if tight end Vernon Davis (back) or offensive lineman Anthony Davis (knee, ankle) will play Sunday against the Chiefs. Eric Reid (hamstring) is also listed as questionable. Safety Antoine Bethea (ankle), wide receiver Michael Crabtree (foot) and running back Frank Gore (back) are probable.

  1. Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee) and linebacker Nigel Bradham (knee) are listed as doubtful for their game against the Lions. Williams has been a standout all season.

11. The Bearshave ruled out offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod (knee) and defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff (concussion). Sunday will be Bushrod's first missed game since 2009.

Jared Allen and Brandon Marshall are both probable for Chicago's game against Carolina. Marshall said he felt more explosive at practice Friday.

13.* *Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Chris Canty (illness/knee) is listed as doubtful and is not expected to play Sunday versus the Colts.

Linebacker Terrell Suggsis questionable, appearing on the injury report with a thigh or groin injury on different days. NFL Media's Stacey Dales reported Saturday night that Suggs will test his thigh before the game and will make a decision whether he'll play, per a source close to the Ravens.

14. Linebacker Dwight Freeney (knee) and defensive lineman Corey Liuget (concussion) participated on a limited basis in practice for the Chargers. They are both questionable.

  1. The Cowboys officially placed cornerback Morris Claiborne (torn patellar tendon) on injured reserve, ending his season.

16. Browns running back Ben Tate (knee) is listed as probable, but didn't sound as confident to the media on Friday.

  1. Washington Redskins offensive lineman Trent Williamswas a limited in practice, but "feels good" about playing Monday.
  1. The Cowboys' Bruce Carter (quadriceps) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Texans.
  1. Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas is out for the second straight week with a foot injury. Guard Justin Blalock has also been ruled out.
  1. New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (hamstring) could make his NFL debut. He's questioanble after practicing on a limited basis.
