Carson Palmer in waiting game with nerve issue

The uncertainty around Carson Palmer continues.

The Arizona Cardinals quarterback, out since Week 2 with a nerve issue in his shoulder, said Thursday he was told by a specialist his injury is not career- or season-threatening and could "wake" at any point, according to the Cardinals' official site.

The plan is for Palmer to continue rehab and hope the nerve recovers. He didn't rule out returning to practice Friday.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported Thursday that the Cardinals are not considering placing Palmer on injured reserve or short-term injured reserve at this time, according to a league source.

"It's still week to week," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday. "If we thought it was long-term, we could always put him on IR with a chance to return, but we're not even close to that yet."

The prognosis and Palmer's plan speak to how unpredictable this situation remains. Drew Stanton will likely make his third consecutive start when the Cardinals meet the Denver Broncoson Sunday.
