The Oakland Raiders have never looked more like a team prepared to leave their home town for a second time.
Following the release of a joint statement with the Chargers earlier this week, one that suggested a site in Carson, California, would be a failsafe option if neither team would work out a deal with their respective cities, the team has been treading some delicate water with an already-sensitive fan base.
But on Friday, owner Mark Davis tried to calm anyone spouting the doomsday scenario.
"We're still trying to get something done in Oakland," Davis said in a phone interview with CSN Bay Area. "I've got options A, B, C and D out there. This is an awesome opportunity to work with the Chargers to try and get something done. ... Really, it's just another part of the process. But again, we're trying to get something done in Oakland."
While a potential move would place two quality franchises into the prime Los Angeles marketplace and give the league a shining, technologically current stadium in which to host a Super Bowl down the road, it's not that simple.
The Raiders' return to Oakland was meaningful on many fronts back in 1995, and the fans wouldn't want to see their team skip town again now that their roster and coaching staff seems to be rounding out.
