Although Hayden closed out last year as a full-time player, he's not guaranteed to open the 2015 season as a starting cornerback.
The new coaching staff had Hayden working with the second-team for much of the offseason, per ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, while 2014 fourth-round pick Keith McGill played opposite T.J. Carrie with the first unit.
Williamson stresses that it's a "fluid situation," but McGill will have the edge entering training camp.
Hayden's failure to develop into a frontline starter is disappointing news for a defense that lacks young standout talents to complement Mack and linebacker Sio Moore.
