If anybody had doubts about West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White's speed, they shouldn't anymore.
White measured 6-foot-2½ and 215 pounds at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, and on Saturday, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds. The 10-yard split was 1.66 seconds.
White, Alabama's Amari Cooper and Louisville's DeVante Parker went into the combine as the top three receivers on seemingly every draft board. The question was: who should be No. 1? White certainly made his case with his 40 time, as there had been questions about his straight-line speed.
Cooper (6-0 7/8, 211) and Parker (6-2½, 209) turned in good unofficial 40 times, as well, and both bettered White's 10-yard split. Cooper was clocked in 4.42 seconds, with a 10-yard split of 1.62, and Parker was at 4.45 and 1.56.
NFL Media analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Mike Mayock had White as the top receiver in their position rankings, while Bucky Brooks had Cooper atop his wide receiver board.
Last week, Mike Mayock boldly predicted White would be a top-10 lock if he were to turn in a strong 40 performance.
"Kevin White is my No. 1 wide receiver," Mayock said. "He has strong hands and is a physical runner after the catch. The only question is his long speed, and there is a huge difference between him running 4.58 and 4.48. If he runs 4.5 or better, I think he's a lock top-10 pick."
