Kenny Britt has shown flashes of ability that help to explain why the Tennessee Titans made him their first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
But Britt has also been an unending soap opera. The latest episode played out last month, when Britt got into a cat-and-mouse game with Jersey City police looking to speak with him after he transported an assaulted friend to the hospital. Britt eventually did speak to police after 48 hours, but it became the wide receiver's ninth known incident involving the police since he came into the NFL.
Jersey City police have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing, the Tennessean reported Wednesday. Police told the Tennessean they would like to further question Britt in a case that remains under investigation.
Titans general manager Ruston Webster is looking for a more mature and productive season from Britt, 24, who was slowed last season by knee problems and is set to enter the final season of his rookie contract.
"We expect all our guys to take care of themselves off the field and do the right things in those situations, plus on the field get themselves ready to play," Webster said, via TitanInsider. "Kenny had a tough year just bouncing back from injuries, but I think he is on the spot to produce this year.
"Plus, I think with our record, us being 6-10, everybody is kind of on the spot, so he would be in with the crowd on that one. But we do expect our guys to handle ourselves quite well off the field and stay out of those situations."
The translation for Britt: Put up some numbers and behave yourself or become somebody else's concern in 2014.
