Nick Foles is Philadelphia Eagles' planned starting QB

Nick Foles should have another chance to build on his first NFL start.

The Philadelphia Eagles plan to start the rookie quarterback Monday night against the Carolina Panthers while veteran Michael Vick continues to heal from a concussion, a source who spoke to Foles told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Recent reports on Vick's condition aren't promising. He was described last week as "heavy-eyed" and foggy. Eagles coach Andy Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, who first reported Foles' status as starter, that Vick still was in Phase 1 and "getting close to Phase 2" of the NFL's protocol for returning from a head injury. The second phase involves exercise challenges, a round of tests that Vick has yet to pass.

Foles was uneven in Sunday's 31-6 loss to the Washington Redskins, completing 21 of 46 passes for 204 yards and two interceptions. With the Eagles flailing, it makes sense to take a look at the young quarterback, but Reid told the Inquirer that Vick's starting job isn't in jeopardy.

"I told you before: Michael is the starting quarterback, and that's the way we work it until (he's healthy)," Reid said Wednesday. "Until he gets healthy, then we can't do anything."

The Eagles are a fading light in the NFC playoff picture, and Vick's time in Philadelphia almost certainly is coming to a close. We expect Foles to see increased playing time down the stretch, no matter Vick's condition.
