Jets WR Garrett Wilson agrees to four-year, $130 million contract extension

Gang Green’s top offensive talent is seeing green.

Standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson and the New York Jets have agreed to terms on a four-year, $130 million contract extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

The deal includes $90 million guaranteed, per Rapoport, with a $13.75 million singing bonus, a $20 million option bonus in the second year and a $10 million option bonus in Year 3. Wilson had two years remaining on his rookie contract and is now signed with the Jets through the 2030 season.

The 24-year-old is coming off his third straight 1,000-yard season since he was selected 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Wilson began an unprecedented run of Buckeyes wide receivers being taken in the first round of four straight drafts (2022, Wilson and Chris Olave; 2023, Jaxon Smith-Njigba; 2024, Marvin Harrison Jr.; 2025, Emeka Egbuka). However, he was also part of a ballyhooed '22 draft class for the Jets under then-general manager Joe Douglas. That class, which also featured fellow first-rounder Jermaine Johnson II and second-round running back Breece Hall, was led by cornerback Sauce Gardner's selection at No. 4 overall.

As noted by Rapoport, the Jets have made clear that Wilson and Gardner are their targets for lucrative, long-term pacts, even under the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. Thus, a Gardner payday should be on the horizon.

On Monday, however, it was Wilson who hauled in a new deal that puts him among the NFL's highest-paid at the position. His extension will pay him an annual average of $32.5 million, which is fifth in the league among WRs.

Wilson became eligible for an extension after his third and best season -- at least statistically. He hauled in career bests of 101 receptions, 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 2022 Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Wilson has caught passes from a cavalcade of quarterbacks -- Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers to name a few. He'll aim to do so with Justin Fields this time around, with Fields taking over in New York while reuniting with Wilson after playing together at Ohio State.

Despite the uncertainty under center, Wilson has been consistently excellent. Wilson is one of only five players in league history to tally 80-plus catches and 1,000-plus yards receiving in each of his first three seasons.

Though the Jets franchise has struggled through nine straight losing seasons -- including last year's 5-12 showing -- Wilson has emerged as a bright light for a brighter future.

New York has rewarded him for that and is banking on more of the same of Wilson's individual success leading to a team turnaround.
