Jets QB Justin Fields to start vs. Bengals with Tyrod Taylor (knee) ruled out

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn had kept his decision on who will start at quarterback close to the vest ahead of Week 8, but an injury will force his hand.

Justin Fields will get the start in Sunday's road game against the Cincinnati Bengals with Tyrod Taylor (knee) being ruled out, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Saturday.

The Jets have since announced the news.

Taylor took over for Fields midway through last Sunday's loss to the Panthers, bringing forth questions to Glenn this week about who he will go forward with at quarterback.

Glenn was tight-lipped about his decision despite Taylor being limited all week in practice with a knee injury. The veteran was initially listed as questionable to play before Saturday's downgrade.

Fields will maintain his role as the Jets' starter for at least one more week due to Taylor's injury. The fifth-year pro has struggled through the air in his first season in New York, averaging 140.8 passing yards per game while producing only four touchdowns through the air in six winless starts.

The Jets QB will go into his seventh start without his top target in Garrett Wilson, who was ruled out with a knee injury. Josh Reynolds (hip) was also downgraded to out on Saturday along with Taylor. Reynolds was later placed on injured reserve Saturday.

The Jets (0-7) are scheduled to kick off against the Bengals (3-4) at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
