Colts DB coach puts FAU's Smith through pro-day workout

Representatives from 22 NFL teams, including Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim and a number of defensive backs coaches, were present for Florida Atlantic's pro day on April 2, when 15 players worked out.

Cornerback D'Joun Smith (5-foot-10 1/8, 192 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds. He had a 10-foot-1 broad jump and performed 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. Smith was put through his workout by Indianapolis Colts secondary coach Mike Gillhamer. Smith was impressive enough in that workout that he probably improved his draft status by as much as a full round.

Linebacker Andrae Kirk (6-0 3/4, 231) ran the 40 in 4.69 and 4.76 seconds. He had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-10 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 5.01 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.54 seconds. He also performed 19 strength lifts. Kirk was a four-year starter for the Owls and is a free-agent pickup possibility for a team following the 2015 NFL Draft.

Safety Damian Parms (6-1 1/8, 201) ran the 40 in 4.61 and 4.59 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-4 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.6 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.44 seconds. He also had 21 strength lifts. Parms is another free-agent pickup possibility.

Wide receiver Rodney "Lucky" Whitehead (5-9 1/2, 174) ran the 40 in 4.41 and 4.37 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-1 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.18 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.89 seconds. Whitehead had 20 strength lifts. Whitehead caught the ball well in the positional drills and he could be a priority free-agent acquisition for a team following the draft.
