It will be an all-AFC West affair when the NFL returns to Brazil in Week 1.
The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, Sept. 5, at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo in a game that will stream for free on YouTube.
Los Angeles, revealed in February as one of the game’s participants, will be looking to snap a seven-game losing streak against Kansas City, which has a chance to start early on capturing a remarkable 10th straight AFC West crown by knocking off a divisional opponent to begin the 2025 campaign.
The matchup pits two of the league’s premier quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, against each other as well as two top-five scoring defenses from a season ago.
The Chiefs, in their first non-Kickoff Game opener since 2022, will be relying on a revamped offensive line and Steve Spagnuolo’s stingy D. The Chargers, meanwhile, are looking to take off in head coach Jim Harbaugh’s second year, buoyed by offensive additions such as free-agent running back Najee Harris, his first-round running mate Omarion Hampton and second-round wide receiver Tre Harris.
Just as in 2024, when the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Green Bay Packers, Brazil will be treated to a showdown between a pair of teams coming off playoff berths.
Philadelphia and Green Bay both went on to partake in the postseason last season. Whoever leaves São Paulo with a victory in September will be on the right track to doing so, too.
