Westbrook recovered from concussion, expects to play for Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will be back on the field Sunday against the San Diego Chargers after missing two games because of a concussion.

Westbrook, who also has been bothered by a sore ankle, practiced twice this week. He deemed himself ready to go Friday before the team left for its flight to California.

"I'm feeling a lot better," Westbrook said. "I'm ready to go."

Westbrook, already limited much of this season with knee and ankle injuries, suffered the concussion when he took a knee to the head during the Eagles' Oct. 26 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Westbrook missed one game and practiced last week before the Eagles' game against the Dallas Cowboys, but he ended up sitting out because of a headache.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said there shouldn't be a similar problem this time. Asked what Westbrook was listed as for Sunday's game, Reid said, "Playing."

Officially, Westbrook is listed as probable, which means there is a 75 percent chance that he will play. But Reid made it sound more definite than that.

"He'll continue to rotate, and we'll just see how he does," Reid said. "I'm not going to just throw him in for the whole game."

In the five games that Westbrook has played this season, he has split time with rookie running back LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia's second-round draft pick.

"LeSean has done a nice job when he's been called on, so that gives us some flexibility," Reid said.

Westbrook has carried the ball 41 times for 197 yards, an average of 4.8 yards per carry, and scored one touchdown this season. His longest run was 25 yards against the Oakland Raiders. He also has caught 17 passes for 130 yards and one touchdown.

Notes: Reid declared WR Kevin Curtis (knee) and LB Akeem Jordan (knee) out for Sunday's game. ... LT Jason Peters (ankle) didn't practice all week, but he will make the trip to San Diego and is listed as questionable. "He's making progress," Reid said. "The ankle is still a little tender. But I'm waiting to see how he is." Peters will be a game-time decision. If Peters can't play, Todd Herremans is expected to move from left guard to left tackle and be replaced by Nick Cole and Stacy Andrews. ... Quintin Demps returned to practice Friday and will take over the kickoff-return duties from Ellis Hobbs, who's on season-ending injured reserve.
