Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher won't say who will start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, citing "competitive reasons."
Fisher has stuck with 15-year veteran Kerry Collins over 2006 first-round draft pick Vince Young this season during the Titans' 0-6 start. The team has lost eight consecutive games dating to last season, when it sprinted out to a 10-0 start as part of the NFL's best record at 13-3.
Fisher said Monday that both quarterbacks did well during the bye week, but Collins was especially good. Collins started in 15 games last season.
"We've had a week to do some different things," Fisher said when asked about disguising his intentions. "Especially considering the circumstances with the record, there are things that you need to do differently. Let's just say I am not going to be as specific and open-ended from a competitive standpoint."
Fisher said he has never lost confidence in Collins, who received a two-year, $15 million contract from the Titans during the offseason, and pointed to the entire team when asked what his veteran starter needs to do to improve.
"It's we have to improve around him," Fisher said. "We have to get open. We have to make the tight catch. You know, we have to run after catch. We have to make more plays. He's putting the ball where he needs to put it for the most part, and we just need to help him."
