Stop me if you've heard this one before: NFL quarterback believes his team can win the division.
Of course you've heard it before, including this week with Dak Prescott. Every NFL player should have that mentality entering a season. Otherwise, why bother playing? (Right, Calvin Johnson?)
In this edition of NFL player says his team can win the division, we bring you Carson Wentz, who is confident the Philadelphia Eagles can go from worst to first in the NFC East.
"We have high expectations around here," Wentz said in a radio interview on WIP on Thursday, via CSN Philly. "We hope and we expect to be playing into January and then to see what happens. I think that's the biggest thing.
"Our goal is to win the NFC East and we believe we have the guys to do it.
"We just have to now go put the work in and go make things happen. We have high expectations. ... 7-9 is never good enough. I never want to be done after the regular season again. That doesn't sit well with me and it never will. We definitely have high expectations to be playing into January and then hopefully get hot and see what happens."
The Eagles spent the offseason providing Wentz with additional weapons on offense, including receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. Having right tackle Lane Johnson for a full season should also help Wentz make strides in Year Two. On defense, Philly traded for defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan -- a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's system -- and added pass rusher Derek Barnett in the first round of the draft.
As with all teams, the Eagles will go only as far as their quarterback takes them. After an up-and-down rookie campaign, all eyes heading into training camp are squarely on how big of strides Wentz made in the improvement department this offseason.
