Running back Derrick Henry signed his rookie contract on the first day in the Tennessee Titans building, the team announced.
Henry's four-year deal is worth $5.4 million with $3.3 million fully guaranteed, a source who has seen the contract told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. It also includes a $2.13 million signing bonus.
In addition to Henry, four other Titans draft picks agreed to terms ahead of the start of offseason workouts Monday.
The bruising runner is expected to share early downs with DeMarco Murray in a revamped Titans backfield. At 6-foot-3, Henry is a violent runner between the tackles, with exceptional burst at the second level for a back of his size.
Henry fits in with coach Mike Mularkey's run-first, smashmouth brand of football. How carries will be split between the rookie and Murray will be an intriguing subplot early in the season, with both backs sharing similar traits. If Murray's lateral agility struggles from last year persist, Henry could become the featured early-down back.
The Titans' offseason has been largely about setting up quarterback Marcus Mariota to succeed in his second season. Tennessee invested a first-round pick on offensive tackle Jack Conklin -- not one of the players signed -- and added Henry to help provide a boost in the ground game. Taking the pressure off Mariota will be a boon for the passer who was subject to constant pressure and one of the least effective rushing attacks last season.
Tennessee also agreed to terms with second-round defensive lineman Austin Johnson, fifth-round receiver Tajae Sharpe, fifth-round cornerback LeShaun Sims, seventh-round linebacker Aaron Wallace and seventh-round corner Kalan Reed.
