Jamaal Charles won't be cut.
Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey reiterated Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the running back will be back in 2016.
"He will be an important piece of this team moving forward," Dorsey said, via the Kansas City Star.
The Chiefs went 11-2 (including two playoff games) sans Charles, who suffered an ACL tear in Week 5. The play of young backs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware caused some, like NFL Media analyst Marshall Faulk, to ponder why K.C. would retain Charles.
The GM added Charles' rehab remains ahead of schedule.
"Before I left to come here to Indianapolis, I saw Jamaal down there diligently working in the training room, and all of a sudden I come back down stairs and he's in the weight room," Dorsey said. "I think he's far enough ahead in the process here which is good, it's good for everybody."
Coming off a second ACL rehab, the 29-year-old back should be part of a running back rotation, which will keep his workload down as he enters his ninth NFL season.
