After a rocky two years in Chicago, Marc Trestman is back in his comfort zone: leading an offense. Now in Baltimore as John Harbaugh's offensive coordinator, he couldn't be happier.
When Trestman was hired away from the Montreal Allouettes in 2013, he was billed as an offensive guru. During his two seasons in Chicago, however, the offense never fully clicked, and the Bears' defense hemorrhaged, ranking 31st in the league last year in points allowed per game (27.6).
Now able to focus on his preferred side of the ball, Trestman told the team's official website that he says "Thank you" as he walks into the team facility each day.
"I feel really appreciative and grateful to be here after what my family and I went through last year," Trestman said. "I embrace it every day."Â
It also doesn't hurt that Trestman gets to work with Joe Flacco, who has proven that he can achieve the consistency -- if not necessarily the flashiness -- that has often alluded Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
Trestman is the team's fourth offensive coordinator since 2012, but Sarah Ellison of Ravens.com reports that he and Flacco are hitting it off. If that relationship flourishes along with Trestman's apparent rejuvenation, the Ravens offense could do some exciting things. Even if he failed in Chicago, Trestman came with hype for a reason.
