INDIANAPOLIS -- Jay Gruden made headlines Wednesday by confirming that Robert Griffin III would be his starting quarterback in 2015, but there were plenty of other newsworthy items from his brief address.
Here are a few takeaways:
» Gruden did not know that his backup quarterback, Kirk Cousins, was working with Gruden's brother, Jon, at his offseason quarterback camp until after the fact. He did not seem interested in having Griffin do the same.
"Jon does his own thing with those quarterback camps, so that's totally on his own nickel, on their own time. Jon's doors are open for a lot of the quarterbacks he's had through those doors. Guys, when they go down to Tampa, they might pop in for an hour or two. I don't try and push it on anybody."
» Washington could save an awful lot of money by cutting Pierre Garcon, a player that vanished in Gruden's offense last year. But the second-year head coach said that Garcon was absolutely still in the team's plans moving forward.
» Gruden has assembled an all-star coaching staff and seems to be much more at ease this season. Bill Callahan was obviously a big part of that.
"I think he's one of the best at what he does. It's very well documented. His offensive lines have been very dominant, very physical, and that's why we were looking to get him.
» Gruden did not say specifically that the team was looking to bring Colt McCoy back, though he did say that he was interested in retaining as many quality pieces from last year as possible (which is what he's supposed to say, not necessarily what he means).
