Cowboys' success could create conflict with CFB title game prep

If the Dallas Cowboys host a game in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, people will be hustling at AT&T Stadium.

The game would be held Jan. 10 or 11, just before the College Football Playoff title game on Jan. 12. Such tight scheduling would set a contingency plan into action, and could give rise to league consideration for the Cowboys' game to be scheduled for Jan. 10, according to USA Today.

"The Cowboys are aware that it would be better for the championship-game readiness if (the playoff game) were on Saturday," College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock told USA Today. Hancock also said "a lot has to happen for this to be a matter that could affect our preparations. We have been planning this with the Cowboys and the stadium staff for several months. We have contingency plans for setting up the stadium for our game. We're ready either way. We do want the best experience for the teams."

Of course, the Cowboys haven't quite yet secured a home game for that weekend. But with two teams other than the Cowboys expecting to use the facility as much as possible that week, the contingency plan no doubt required some creativity.

Cowboys vice president Rich Dalrymple responded to USA Today via email: "The people who operate the stadium have prepared for, and would be ready to handle, whatever schedule is assigned by the NFL in the event of that happening."

It's unclear whether or how much college teams might be displaced in their preparation in the event of a Divisional Round playoff game at AT&T Stadium. But for Oregon associate athletic director Jeff Hawkins, whose team must first beat defending national champion Florida State in the Rose Bowl semifinal, it would be a good problem to have.

"I hope that it's something we have to worry about," he said.
