Georgia linebacker Amarlo Herrera and Arizona wide receiver Austin Hill are two of the top talents to accept an invitation to the 90th annual East-West Shrine Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Herrera leads the Bulldogs in tackles with 93 and in tackles for loss with 10, helping Georgia to a possible appearance in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 6. He made 112 tackles as a junior and should easily reach 100 again Saturday against Georgia Tech's ground-based offensive attack. Hill has 38 receptions for 541 yards and four touchdowns for the Wildcats this season, rebounding impressively from a knee injury that sidelined him the entire 2013 season.
The game will be played Jan. 17 and will air on NFL Network.
Other top players to accept invitations so far include Duke quarterback Anthony Boone, Louisville offensive tackle Jamon Brown, LSU running back Kenny Hilliard, Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan, and Washington State wide receiver Vince Mayle. NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks called Mayle the best-kept secret on the West Coast; Ryan has been named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker.
Like the Shrine game, the Reese's Senior Bowl is also in the process of gathering commitments to fill its rosters.
