Miami was battered by the Saints' front seven as quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked four times on the night. After allowing 18 takedowns in just four games, the Dolphins are on pace to give up an outrageous 72 sacks on the season. If that plays out, guard Richie Incognito says a housecleaning is in order.
"If we give up 72 sacks, everybody should be fired. The whole offensive line," Incognito told reporters Wednesday, via the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "If (Tannehill) gets sacked 72 times, there is obviously a major problem. I don't think anybody can handle that many sacks."
Nobody's "handled" more this season. Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers is next on the list, having been sacked 15 times. By comparison, Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions has been dropped just three times this season.
When we named Tannehill our top "Making the Leap" candidate, we tempered our praise for the passer with concerns about the linemen who protect him. As expected, Miami's front five have struggled, and it cost the Dolphins a win Monday night. If it costs them Tannehill's well-being, Incognito might be on to something. The "Around The League Podcast" is now available on iTunes! Click here to listen and subscribe.
