Bernie Kosar arrested on suspicion of DUI, police say

Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday in suburban Cleveland, police told The Plain Dealer.

Police in Solon, Ohio, said they stopped Kosar for speeding at about 2:45 a.m. ET on U.S. Route 422 and noticed "a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle," according to The Plain Dealer, which cited a police press release for the information.

Kosar was alone in the car and took sobriety tests, police told The Plain Dealer. Kosar later was taken to the Solon Police Department without incident.

Kosar, 49, has been open about his past financial problems and struggles with brain trauma, the result of multiple head injuries suffered during his 12-year playing career with the Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.

Kosar also caused a stir in August with his harsh comments about the St. Louis Rams during a preseason game with the Browns, who hired Kosar as a preseason on-air analyst.
