Mason Crosby takes pay cut from Green Bay Packers?

After fighting all week to keep his job, Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby is accepting a pay cut.

Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports reported Thursday that Crosby has agreed to restructure his contract, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Scheduled to pay out $2.4 million in base salary this season, Crosby's reworked deal now offers $800,000 in base pay. Those earnings are fully guaranteed if he makes the team, and the six-year veteran can recoup the other $1.6 million through roster bonuses and performance incentives, McIntyre reported.

After making just 21 of 33 field goals last season, Crosby -- 4 of 4 in preseason games -- spent the offseason battling Giorgio Tavecchio for the right to stay in Green Bay. After Tavecchio was waived this week, Zach Ramirez was wheeled in for a look-see.

The competition went well for Crosby, who nailed 14 of 14 field-goal attempts Tuesday in a contest tracked breathlessly by local beat writers. Ramirez was cut the same day, and Crosby's role with the Packers appears safe, especially since the front office chose to rework his contract.
