Kirk Cousins inactive for Washington Redskins' game

In a perfect world, Saturday's Redskins-Bills preseason game would match Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III against Buffalo rookie EJ Manuel.

We don't live in a perfect world, so get ready for Rex Grossman versus Kevin Kolb on live, color television. Contain your excitement, please.

Breer: More than just RGIII
Though led by one player, the Redskins' rebirth has involved the transformation of the entire team, Albert Breer says. More ...

RGIII won't play until Week 1 at the earliest, and his backup, Kirk Cousins, has been ruled inactive against the Bills after spraining his right foot in Monday night's 24-13 preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced.

With Cousins out of the mix, the Redskins are left with just Grossman and fourth-string passer Pat White against Buffalo's hybrid defense.

Cousins has yet to practice, but he's already shed his walking boot, so we'd expect him to be ready for Week 1.

Manuel's status is no surprise after he underwent a scheduled knee procedure Sunday. The Bills hope he'll be ready for the season opener, but the timetable for the first-round draft pick's return is hazy. Not unlike the play of Kolb.
