Week 2 offers a bevy of highly enticing matchups, and Ian Rapoport is here to rank them. Which game claims No. 1? **More ...**

Ryan Mathews returned to practice Thursday. He was limited, but Kevin Acee of the U-T San Diego reports that Mathews took contact for the first time since suffering the injury on August 9.

Chargers coach Norv Turner was tight-lipped and rather confusing in his comments about Mathews. The rising running back said he was just taking his status "day by day" but we doubt the Chargers would risk contact at practice unless he was ready to roll.

"It's kind of like being a caged lion," said Mathews. "You want to be out there, but you've got to be patient and take the time it takes. It's a broken bone, so I had to wait. But like I said, it's fun just being out there with the team again, being able to run routes and plays."
