The issues surrounding the proposed Vikings stadium in Minneapolis are complex. It's an issue we haven't written about much on ATL because we're hardly experts and we wanted to see how the politics played out.
But Monday night's rejection of the proposed stadium plan by a Minnesota House committee was a big moment. It's going to change the tenor of the debate in Minnesota. Governor Mark Dayton is already looking to next year, an admission of defeat from a man that desperately wanted a new stadium.
This is the worst kind of news for Vikings fans. Negative rhetoric is going to increase in the coming year.Â
"It's got to be tougher for Vikings fans to follow their team when the threat of losing the franchise that's made a home in Minnesota for 51 years seems more real than ever," Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press wrote, mentioning things could "get ugly" in the coming months.
Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune wrote doomsday scenarios of the Vikings leaving town earlier this week, almost as a threat before the vote occurred. It didn't help.
This isn't a fun story to write about, but ATL intends to be a reflection of what fans are talking about in the NFL.Â
From Minnesota to Los Angeles, the future of the Vikings will sadly be a topic we hear more and more about.
