Report: Bears not interested in luring Favre to Chicago

Not so fast on the Brett Favre comeback.

A Tuesday report by ESPN cited a high-ranking Bears source in saying Chicago has zero interest in luring the old-as-the-ocean passer out of retirement.

Favre, thought to be open to another comeback, was never contacted by the Bears, according to the report, leaving the 42-year-old free to roam the land near his Hattiesburg home.

For better or worse, the Bears will stick with Caleb Hanie, fueled by a glimmer of hope that Jay Cutler's broken thumb will heal before season's end. Other (uninspiring) in-house options include Josh McCown and the irrepressible Nathan Enderle.

When Colt McCoy visited Favre in the offseason -- in an attempt to glean wisdom about the West Coast attack -- the Browns quarterback told stories of a breakfast table littered with “the best pancakes in the world,” cooked up by Brett’s mother-in-law.

Really, if that's what Favre's waking up to each morning, before days hunting/fishing/brooding, how attractive is the prospect of suiting up for a Matt Forte-less Bears team in subzero conditions with the pressure dialed up to the max?

It's Farmer Favre for now -- and maybe forever.
