Eagles' Reid brushes off criticism: 'It's a free country, man'

Eagles coach Andy Reid has reached a point where he's probably starting to feel like the media is attacking him.

In his weekly Monday news conference, Reid became a little defensive -- in a nonchalant kind of way -- while answering reporters' questions about his team's struggles. Reid seemed particularly miffed when asked about how carelessness, which again reared its ugly head during Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills, has become the Eagles' hallmark during their 1-4 start.

"Listen, everybody ... it's a free country, man," Reid said. "Everybody can have their opinion. We don't worry about all those things. Worried about getting better and fixing the situations that we need to fix, but everybody will have their opinion. It's America. Everybody can do that."

Invoking the First Amendment? That's exactly what people do when they're fed up with hearing the same ol' same ol'. Thing is, it works both ways. Eagles fans are tired of hearing Reid's explanations for why the most talented team in the NFL has dropped four straight to become the league's most overrated.

Reid has been coaching for a long time and should know this is what happens when you fail to meet lofty expectations. The head coach is assaulted with questions wondering what the heck is happening. And it's going to continue until the team shows at least a semblance of its potential.

"We're going to work our tail off to get it right," Reid said. "I mean, that's what we're going to do. We're not backing up a lick, man, so that's our approach. ...

"No excuses for anything here, very up front with you. It's my football team. I've got to get it right. We'll do this as a football team. You've talked to the guys, the coaches -- some of the coaches, the coordinators. Everybody's accountable. We're going to work through it and get it right."

Do you believe him?
