Steelers release rookie wide receiver Jackson

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed linebacker Marquis Cooper on waivers from the Seattle Seahawks on Monday and released rookie wide receiver Chris Jackson and first-year safety Harrison Smith.

They also re-signed wide receiver Gerran Walker, a former Lehigh star who was released two weeks ago.

Cooper, a four-year veteran, played in two games with Pittsburgh last season before being cut. He previously played two seasons with Tampa Bay and in four games last season with Seattle.

Jackson, who played at Millsaps College, signed in April as an undrafted free agent primarily to be a kick returner.

Smith joined the Steelers in January after being cut by Detroit before the start of last season.
