Quick Take: Vikes' rally, playoffs fall short

It was over when ...
Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson lost a fumble on a sack by DT Alvin McKinley and LB Jamie Winborn on the Vikings' first drive of overtime. Broncos kicker Jason Elam kicked a 30-yard field on the next play to win it.

Game balls
Broncos WR Brandon Marshall caught 10 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown, and even executed an impressive hook-and-ladder play in the fourth quarter.

Key stat
In addition to Jackson's overtime fumble, the Vikings missed a number of opportunities in this one. Chester Taylor lost two fumbles -- the second leading to a Denver touchdown -- and fumbled a handoff from Jackson. WR Troy Williamson dropped a wide-open pass behind the Broncos secondary that most likely would have gone for a touchdown in the first half.

Noteworthy
Vikings tackle Ryan Cook was called for a 15-yard face-mask penalty in the end zone, giving the Broncos a safety. ... With 36 yards, rookie RB Adrian Peterson finished the season as the NFC's leading rusher. It marks the first time a rookie has accomplished that feat since Barry Sanders did it in 1989.
