Despite playing a ball-control battle with winds in the mid- to high-teens for most of the game, Miami QB Chad Pennington threw two touchdown passes in the first half, allowing the tough Dolphins defense to play with a lead.

Key stat
Miami's defense increased its streak of quarters without allowing a touchdown to 12, after holding St. Louis and Buffalo out of the end zone the previous two weeks. San Francisco was limited to three Joe Nedney field goals (from 38, 23 and 28 yards).

San Francisco RB Frank Gore made the trip to his hometown of Miami but didn't play because of a sprained left ankle.
