Spears started all but three games with the Dallas Cowboys between 2006 and 2009 and will add depth. He joins defensive tackleChris Canty as free-agent veterans brought in to fortify the line.

The Ravens were quiet in free agency early as Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe left. Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers and Ed Reed is testing the market. Bernard Pollard was released.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Spears, 30, No. 20 overall in 2005, but he never lived up to that status. He finished with 25 tackles and a sack in 2012.
