Lions sign former Seahawks TE Heller, release backup LB Cannon

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions signed tight end Will Heller, an unrestricted free agent, to a one-year contract and released linebacker Anthony Cannon on Monday.

Terms of Heller's deal weren't disclosed.

Heller played the previous three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. His best season came in 2007, when he played in all 16 games and had a career-high 13 receptions for 82 yards and three touchdowns.

Heller played in 12 games for the Seahawks in 2008 and had four catches for 29 yards. He signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2003 and played in 19 games for the Buccaneers over two seasons.

The Lions drafted the 6-foot, 224-pound Cannon in the seventh round in 2006. He played in 32 games for Detroit over three seasons and made 21 tackles.
