Jaguars cut veteran CB James; practice-squad TE Davis also released

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran cornerback William James and practice-squad tight end Charles Davis, the team announced Thursday.

James was a third-round draft pick of the New York Giants in 2001. He was signed by the Jaguars as a veteran free agent on Sept. 1 and played in eight games with one start last season.

Davis has spent parts of the last two seasons on the Jaguars' practice squad after signing on Dec. 13, 2007.
