Jacoby Jones' five-year run with the Houston Texans ended somewhat notoriously on a January winter day in Baltimore.
Now Jones has signed with Baltimore, putting that day behind him.
"Change is good in life," Jones told the team's official site. "I left one high school, went to another and I was successful. I left one college and went to Lane College and was successful. And now I'm leaving Houston and I will be successful."
The Ravens sought a return specialist, and that is where Jones will likely step in (after his 49 punt returns in 2011 including a 79-yard touchdown for the Texans). Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb returned punts last season, which wasn't viewed as an ideal situation. David Reed returned kicks but is on the mend from a torn ACL, leaving room for Jones to contribute immediately.
Snaps at wideout might harder to come by. The Ravens have expended a lot of energy trying to upgrade their receiving corps in recent years. Jones brings speed, but it's unclear where he'll fit among a cast that includes starters Anquan Boldin and second-year wideout Torrey Smith. Behind the duo, Tandon Doss, LaQuan Williams, Reed and rookie Tommy Streeter will fight for time.Â
Jones accepts the challenge: "When I came here on my visit, they welcomed me here like I was already signed," he said. "The other attraction is the opportunity. They are contenders. That's the big thing right there."
