Hamstring injury to keep Samuel of out Eagles' preseason opener

Cornerback Asante Samuel will not play in the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday because of a hamstring strain.

Samuel, who signed a six-year, $57 million contract during the offseason, has been slowed by the injury throughout training camp since he was injured on July 28 during passing drills.

The Eagles may also be without starting wide receiver Reggie Brown, who has an inflamed achilles tendon. Coach Andy Reid said Greg Lewis would likely start if Brown is unable to play.

Reid said on Thursday he planned that Eagles starters will play a quarter and a half.

Defensive end Victor Abiamiri, tackle Franklin Dunbar and defensive tackles Montae Reagor and Kimo von Oelhoffen are also out for Friday's game.
