Furrey becames latest veteran wideout to join Redskins

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins announced Wednesday that they have signed veteran wide receiver Mike Furrey.

Financial terms weren't disclosed for Furrey, who has played for the St. Louis Rams, Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns over seven NFL seasons. He caught 23 passes for 170 yards last season with the Browns.

Furrey also has been used as a punt returner and kick returner, and he can play defense, too. He started 11 games at safety for the Rams in 2005 and played the position again late last season with the Browns.

Also on Wednesday, the Redskins released linebacker Alvin Bowen, defensive lineman Antoine Holmes, cornerback Marcus McCauley and tight end Sean Ryan.
