Cardinals LB Hayes may miss start of camp after back surgery

Arizona Cardinals starting linebacker Gerald Hayes underwent back surgery during the offseason and is not expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp, the *Arizona Republic* reported on Wednesday.

Hayes, who had been hampered by a bulging disk, was hoping to avoid surgery. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told the newspaper that Hayes underwent "a procedure" after missing most of the team's offseason workouts earlier this summer.

He said Hayes will be evaluated before reporting to training camp on July 30.
