Boldin to sit out preseason opener New Orleans

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin will miss Thursday's preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints with a right hamstring injury.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection remains day-to-day for practice, Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday.

"I think we're going to try to do some things with Anquan, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with him going into the game without having done a lot of reps," Whisenhunt said.

Whisenhunt also said rookie receiver Early Doucet will miss the game because of a hamstring injury.

Also Monday, the Cardinals released veteran running back Marcel Shipp and signed free agent offensive lineman Jasper Harvey.

Shipp signed with the Cardinals in 2001 as an undrafted rookie free agent. He rushed for 834 yards 2002 and 830 yards the next season. He was injured all of 2004 and rushed for just 41 yards each of the past two seasons.

Harvey, who can play guard and center, was brought in to shore up an injury-depleted offensive line.

Starting center Al Johnson and reserve guard-center Scott Peters suffered knee injuries last week. Johnson had surgery Friday, but Whisenhunt hopes to have him back for the season opener Sept. 7 against San Francisco. Peters was placed on season-ending injured reserve Friday.
