Hoping to get a jump on learning new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano's offense, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been tutored by former Jets and Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington in classroom-like sessions, ESPNNewYork.com reported Saturday.

Sanchez got together recently with Pennington in South Florida to learn Sparano's system and terminology, according to the report, with Pennington even bringing an old Miami Dolphins playbook with him. Sparano replaced Brian Schottenheimer on Jan. 11.
Sanchez took the initiative, the report stated, because under the new collective bargaining agreement players can't meet with their coaches and discuss football until April 16 -- the start of the offseason program.
Sanchez had career highs in yards (3,474), touchdowns (26) and completion percentage (56.7) in his third NFL season but he threw 18 interceptions and had 10 fumbles as the Jets failed to make the playoffs.
Pennington, 35, worked as a FOX Sports game analyst while missing last season after knee surgery, and is considering retirement.
Ironically, Pennington's former backup in Miami -- Chad Henne -- is reportedly being considered by the Jets in free agency as a veteran backup for Sanchez.
