Brodrick Bunkley released by New Orleans Saints

Junior Galette isn't the only former Saints starter on defense to lose his job this week.

The Saints announced Tuesday that they have released defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley on a failed physical designation.

Bunkley started 11 games for New Orleans last season before suffering a torn quad that ended his season in November. The roster designation indicates Bunkley has yet to fully recover from the injury. He did not take part in any of the team's offseason workouts.

Bunkley seemed to be in the Saints' future at one point this offseason. In March, he took a significant pay cut that dropped his base salary from $4.4 million to $1.25 million. The move was one of several made by the Saints as they battled to get under the cap this winter.

Bunkley, 32, can still help a team when healthy and should find a short-term deal for a team looking for a situational space-eater.
